Apple Reportedly Planning AI-Powered Home Security Camera for 2026

Apple is reportedly preparing to enter the home security market with a smart camera featuring AI-driven facial recognition. The device is expected to launch in 2026 and would integrate with Apple’s HomeKit ecosystem and Apple Intelligence platform, expanding the company’s footprint in the smart home sector.

AI Features and Design

Multiple outlets referencing Bloomberg reporting suggest the camera may use a combination of facial recognition and infrared sensors to identify household members and detect room presence. This could enable automated responses such as adjusting lighting or triggering other connected devices within HomeKit. The system is also expected to emphasize privacy, in line with Apple’s broader hardware strategy.

Dataconomy reports the device could operate for several months to a year on a single charge, allowing for flexible placement without constant recharging. Apple is said to be considering multiple form factors for its security hardware, but the 2026 camera would be its first in this category.

Part of a Larger Smart Home Push

The camera project is one element of a broader home hardware expansion that also includes a wall-mounted smart display slated for 2025. That device, expected to measure around six inches, is designed to serve as a central control point for smart home functions and will integrate with Apple’s voice assistant and automation tools.

Analysts see Apple’s move into home security cameras as a strategic step to compete more directly with established players like Amazon’s Ring and Google’s Nest. By combining hardware, AI capabilities, and integration with its existing ecosystem, Apple could differentiate its offering in a crowded market.

While some sources have speculated about potential multi-camera system support and deeper AI enhancements to Siri, these features have not been confirmed. Apple has not publicly commented on the reports.
