AirTera has announced a patent-pending biometric screening platform called DepartureCheck, developed in collaboration with the U.S. Transportation Security Administration and aviation stakeholders. The system performs real-time face matching against photographic IDs, flags fraudulent or noncompliant credentials, and cross-checks passenger data against flight manifests to prevent boarding errors.
DepartureCheck is modular and designed for interoperability, including integration with the FL3XX aviation management platform. The solution aligns with NIST SP 800-53, NIST SP 800-63, and SOC 2 controls, according to the company.
“DepartureCheck reflects what’s possible when innovation is led by industry but shaped in close partnership with government,” said Jiri Marousek, CEO of AirTera. “It’s a solution designed not only to raise the bar for aviation security, but to modernize how we think about identity management in transportation. By combining biometric intelligence with seamless interoperability, we’re creating a future where security enhances—not hinders—the passenger experience.”
AirTera will provide live demonstrations of DepartureCheck at the NBAA Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition in Las Vegas from October 14 to 16, 2025.
AirTera, previously known for fingerprint biometric services in support of TSA programs, is extending its capabilities into passenger identity verification. The launch comes amid broader deployment of biometric systems across U.S. aviation, including the expansion of TSA facial recognition to 80 airports, the rollout of Touchless ID lanes in Denver, and congressional scrutiny of TSA’s biometric program.
Deploying biometric screening in aviation carries operational and technical challenges. These include ensuring low false positive rates, handling different ID formats, preserving privacy, and integrating with existing airport and airline systems. Success will depend on rigorous auditability, minimal retention, and coordination across industry stakeholders.
