AI Startup Neural Defend Raises $600K to Combat Deepfake Financial Fraud

Neural Defend, an AI cybersecurity startup focused on deepfake detection, has secured over $600,000 in pre-seed funding to combat the rising threat of AI-powered financial fraud. The funding round was led by Inflection Point Ventures (IPV), with participation from MIT SBXI, Techstars San Francisco, and Soonicorn Ventures.US Special Ops Command Mulls $500M+ Academic Collaboration on Identity Exploitation

The investment comes at a critical time, as financial institutions face unprecedented challenges from AI-generated fraud. Recent data shows that more than 40 percent of fraud attempts in the financial sector now use artificial intelligence, with manual detection methods proving largely ineffective against sophisticated deepfakes.

Founded in 2024 by Piyush Verma, Sivashankar Selvarajan, and Sumit Singh, Neural Defend operates from dual headquarters in India and San Francisco. The company’s technology focuses on real-time, multimodal deepfake detection, specifically targeting the growing threat of identity fraud in financial transactions.

“Neural Defend’s AI-driven approach to real-time detection perfectly aligns with today’s urgent need for robust cybersecurity and digital identity protection,” said Vikram Ramasubramanian, Partner & CIO at Inflection Point Ventures. “At IPV, we back companies that solve critical challenges with scalable business models.”

The startup’s funding arrives amid alarming trends in digital fraud. Recent industry reports indicate that traditional document review processes identify sophisticated deepfakes less than one percent of the time. Cybersecurity analysts project that deepfake-related crimes could exceed $52 billion by 2030.

Neural Defend plans to use the funding to enhance its AI capabilities, advance R&D efforts, and scale operations through partnerships with global enterprises and financial institutions. The company is currently working with several fintech firms to validate its technology, particularly in video verification and KYC applications.

The investment reflects a broader industry trend toward AI-powered security solutions. Major players like LexisNexis Risk Solutions have recently made strategic acquisitions in the digital identity verification space, highlighting the growing demand for advanced fraud prevention technologies.
