Privately SA, a Swiss AI firm specializing in privacy-first Safety Tech, has reached a major milestone in digital age verification. The company is now processing nearly 300,000 age checks per month through its AgeAI and FaceAssure technologies, which have been deployed in over 90 countries. The achievement reflects growing global demand for privacy-preserving solutions in an increasingly regulated digital environment.
Local Age Checks, Global Reach
Unlike traditional ID-based verification systems, Privately’s solutions perform age checks locally on users’ devices without storing biometric data or requiring ID uploads. This privacy-by-design approach has helped the company gain traction across multiple sectors, including retail, gaming, and online media. AgeAI and FaceAssure are already in use in key markets such as the UK, US, France, and Australia.
“We’ve shown that our age assurance technology is accurate, privacy-preserving and scalable,” said Deepak Tewari, CEO of Privately SA. “It’s now being deployed globally to protect children, enable safe access, and build trust across digital ecosystems.”
Privately’s technology has gained attention as regulators introduce stricter safety requirements for online services. The UK’s Online Safety Act, enforced by OFcom, will require age checks for adult content platforms starting in July of this year. Similar obligations are emerging under the EU’s Digital Services Act and the proposed US Kids Online Safety Act, which are expected to shape industry standards in the coming years.
Founded on Privacy and Compliance
Founded in 2014 and headquartered at EPFL Innovation Park in Lausanne, Privately SA employs between 10 and 30 people. The company has developed a portfolio of AI-powered tools focused on child safety, age assurance, and data protection. Its solutions are used not only in digital platforms but also in physical retail environments, particularly vape and alcohol retailers, where real-time age checks are required.
The company’s approach is compliant with global privacy frameworks, including GDPR and the UK’s Children’s Code. No images or biometric data are stored or transmitted during verification. Instead, age estimation is done entirely on the user’s device, which limits exposure and builds user trust. FaceAssure has achieved EAL-3 certification and has been integrated into platforms developed by partners like Luciditi and Privado ID.
In addition to commercial success, Privately has collaborated with organizations including BBC, Vodafone, Samsung, and Save the Children to deploy SafetyTech tools for online protection. The company’s technologies are also being evaluated by major gaming studios and social platforms as they seek compliant, user-friendly alternatives to traditional identity checks.
