African Firms Partner to Merge Biometrics with Geospatial ID Verification

AfriGIS and iPulse Systems have entered into a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening identity verification capabilities across Africa by integrating geospatial intelligence with biometric authentication technologies. The partnership combines AfriGIS’s location data services with iPulse’s cloud-based biometrics platform, offering an interoperable solution intended to improve accuracy and reduce onboarding friction in identity verification processes.

The collaboration comes amid increased regulatory scrutiny of biometric technologies, underscoring the need for secure, privacy-conscious solutions. The joint platform will allow organizations to deploy identity verification tools without significant infrastructure changes, aiming to make advanced capabilities more accessible to a wider range of clients, including those in smaller or underserved markets.

“Our collaboration with AfriGIS is an exciting opportunity to enhance the services we provide to our customers,” said Gary Chalmers, CEO of iPulse. “By combining their trusted data with our platform, we can offer a unique and seamless experience to businesses of all sizes.”

Founded in 1997, AfriGIS is a South African company specializing in geospatial data and analytics. Its validated and regularly updated location datasets cover over 21,000 localities and nearly half a million sub-localities, supporting applications in urban planning, logistics, financial services, and risk management. The company offers APIs and mapping tools used by clients across the Southern African region.

iPulse Systems, based in Randburg, South Africa, has developed biometric and identity management solutions since 2001. Its offerings include BIOMatch.cloud and VoiceIQ.cloud, platforms used for multi-factor authentication, access control, time and attendance tracking, and fraud prevention. The systems are designed for rapid deployment, minimal integration overhead, and compatibility with a wide range of business systems.

“This collaboration with iPulse is a key element of our strategy to offer even more value to our customers,” said Rochelle Mountany, CEO of AfriGIS. “Together, we can create a broader impact, especially in markets where we have not traditionally had the reach or the scale to penetrate effectively.”

By streamlining the integration of geospatial and biometric technologies, the partnership is expected to support use cases such as real-time fraud detection, secure onboarding for digital banking, and automated access control in logistics and infrastructure sectors. One key feature of the alliance is a simplified licensing model: rather than charging per transaction, the joint offering uses a platform fee structure with unlimited transactions, which can appeal to enterprise clients while remaining accessible to smaller businesses.

The combined solution is also positioned as a compliance-focused alternative for customers navigating evolving data protection and biometric regulations. Through a single platform, customers will gain access to both location-based validation services and multi-modal biometric authentication, reducing the need for multiple service providers and supporting operational efficiency.
