Digital Afrique Telecom (DAT) and European compliance technology provider IDCanopy have announced a strategic partnership to deliver advanced Know Your Customer (KYC) and Know Your Business (KYB) solutions to financial institutions across West Africa. The joint initiative is designed to support banks and other regulated entities in complying with the Central Bank of West African States’ (BCEAO) newly introduced regulatory framework.
Supporting BCEAO’s New AML/CFT Mandates
The collaboration, formally revealed on May 6, 2025, is focused on enabling compliance with BCEAO’s Instruction No. 001-03-2025, a sweeping mandate introduced earlier this year. The instruction sets forth enhanced internal control requirements aimed at strengthening anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorism financing (CFT) safeguards across the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA). The union includes eight member states: Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Niger, Senegal, and Togo.
DAT and IDCanopy’s new compliance suite combines regional market insight with robust European regulatory technology. It provides real-time capabilities including sanctions screening, politically exposed person (PEP) monitoring, continuous oversight of ultimate beneficial owners (UBOs) and directors, and fully automated audit trails. The features are designed to offer both comprehensive risk mitigation and operational efficiency.
Deployment Flexibility and Digital Inclusion Goals
Financial institutions can immediately deploy the new solution via multiple integration options. The suite supports API integrations, SDK implementations, and hosted web platforms, offering flexibility for institutions of all sizes and levels of digital maturity. This adaptability is important as many financial entities in the region seek to modernize their compliance operations while extending services to underserved populations.
In addition to addressing regulatory obligations, the partnership lines up with broader regional efforts to advance digital inclusion. By making secure onboarding and compliance tools more accessible, the initiative supports financial institutions in extending services to previously excluded communities—an objective emphasized in BCEAO’s recent guidance.
Interested institutions can request product demonstrations and regulatory consultations via DAT’s website. The companies say that their compliance platform is fully scalable and customizable, capable of meeting both local regulatory specifics and the operational realities of a fast-evolving financial landscape.
