1Kosmos and Fischer Identity announced a partnership to bring biometric identity verification and passwordless authentication to colleges and universities, targeting a sector increasingly vulnerable to enrollment fraud, synthetic identities, and financial aid theft.
Under the partnership, Fischer Identity will serve as the customer-facing distributor and systems integrator for the 1Kosmos identity verification platform within higher education environments. The joint solution is designed to verify student, alumni, and staff identities using high-assurance proofing and biometric verification while integrating with existing identity and access management workflows.
Higher education institutions face growing identity fraud challenges including ghost students who enroll under fabricated identities to collect financial aid, synthetic identities created from stolen personal information, and credential theft across fragmented campus systems. The partnership addresses digital ID adoption trends on college campuses, where nearly 3 million students have already adopted digital IDs as institutions manage access across a mix of legacy and modern systems.
The 1Kosmos platform provides unified credential verification across enrollment, financial aid processes, and ongoing access management. It works across diverse institutional environments spanning legacy systems, cloud platforms, and third-party services without disrupting existing workflows.
The deployment model aligns with updated NIST digital identity guidelines that tighten standards for identity proofing and biometric verification. The higher-education deployment also reflects a broader shift toward passwordless authentication across industries, as organizations move away from password-based security vulnerable to phishing and credential theft.
The platform is available immediately through Fischer Identity for higher education institutions.
